Special, three-day filing period scheduled for proposed Public Hospital District No. 5
King County Elections will hold a special, three-day filing period for the five commissioner positions in the proposed Public Hospital District No. 5. Voters of Vashon-Maury Island will approve or reject the formation of Public Hospital District No. 5 in the Feb. 7, 2006, Special Election.
Candidates can file for office at the King County Elections office Monday, Dec. 12 through Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. King County Elections is located in the King County Administration Building at 500 Fourth Ave., Room 553.
To accommodate Vashon-Maury Island residents, a one-day candidate filing will be conducted at the Vashon Community Service Center on Tuesday, Dec. 13 between 12 and 7 p.m. The Community Service Center is located at the Courthouse Square.
Note: Declarations of candidacy must be filed by Dec. 14, 4:30 p.m.; postmarks are not accepted.
Quick tips for candidates filing for office:
- To file for office, you must be registered to vote in the proposed Public Hospital District No. 5, which boundaries include Vashon-Maury Island.
- Bring photo identification with you.
- There is no filing fee for Public Hospital Commissioner positions.
- For your declaration of candidacy to be valid, you must sign it in front of a notary or in the presence of a filing officer.
- Candidates must declare candidacy for one of the five open commissioner positions. Interim terms of office will be determined based on the two positions with declared winners receiving the most votes will serve a term of office expiring 2011. The two positions with declared winners receiving the next highest vote totals will serve a term of office expiring 2009. The commissioner position with the declared winner receiving the least votes will serve a term expiring 2007.
- A local voters’ pamphlet will be published; candidates must have their photos and statements submitted by Dec. 20, 2005.
- All information, including phone numbers, submitted on the Declaration of Candidacy is public information. Your filing address will be published in the official Notice of Election.
