Election observer training slated for Saturday

King County Elections will hold a one-hour election observer training session Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004. The session is open to individuals or groups interested in observing polling, ballot processing, and/or election night activities during the November 2nd General Election.

Election officials anticipate a number of observers at polling locations on Election Day.

Training is not required to observe the elections process, though it is strongly encouraged. Saturday’s training session will include an overview of all Election Day activities and will orient potential observers with the schedule and locations for each of the activities – including polling place, ballot processing, canvassing, and election night reporting activities.

“Nothing is more fundamental to a democracy than an open and transparent election process,” said Dean Logan, director of King County Records, Elections and Licensing Services. “We encourage and welcome our community to learn more about the integrity that safeguards elections in King County.”

The session will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30th in the 8th floor conference room of the King Street Center located at 201 S. Jackson Street in Seattle.

For planning purposes, advance reservations for the session are encouraged. Interested parties are asked to call 206-296-1565 or to email elections@kingcounty.gov by Friday, Oct.29 at 5 p.m. to ensure available seating.
