Having served Mercer
Island for 6 years as Councilmember and
Deputy Mayor I look forward to a final term prepared to listen and act with
reason and in good faith.
Actions I have found rewarding include the
selection of Option R-8A to reconfigure I-90 to speed public transportation,
reduce congestion and preserve Island SOV access; major improvements at
Mercerdale and Pioneer Parks; continued operations of Mary Wayte Pool; defeat
of outside proposals to increase local aircraft noise; a decision to build a
new community center; and tight control of local taxes.
Looking ahead we must effectively implement
decisions made. Essential police, fire and utility services must be sustained.
Extensive downtown developments will require close city cooperation to minimize
service and traffic dislocations. The firm budget for the Community Center must
be realized and extensive public discourse will determine the future of Luther Burbank Park.
