Resilient King County is an initiative set forth to guide the long-term recovery of the region after a major disaster. The initiative's virtual town hall is taking place now, and allows you to provide feedback on how you think King County could build back better. Comment on the King County Consolidated Housing and Community Development Plan
Please join us at a public forum to discuss and comment on the 2015-2019 King County Consolidated Housing and Community Development Plan. The consolidated plan guides investment of approximately $53 million in local, state and federal funds that are made available each year to address housing, homelessness and community needs. Forums will run from 4-7 p.m. on Sept. 4 at Pabla Punjabi Palace, 15245 International Blvd., Suite 250 in Tukwila; Sept. 9 at the Bellevue Library, 1111 110th Ave NE in Bellevue; and Sept. 10 at Third Place Commons, 17171 Bothell Way NE in Lake Forest Park. 2015 Unincorporated Community Grant applications coming soon
The application process for 2015 Community Service Area grants for unincorporated King County residents is scheduled to begin in September. The application period for the proposed $60,000 in available funds will run from September through early December, and awards are expected to be available by March 2015. Think creatively about your community.

First round of Metro bus cuts start Sept. 27
To match service levels with actual revenues, King County Metro Transit must move forward with a first round of difficult and unprecedented service cuts Sept. 27, canceling, reducing and revising dozens of bus routes. Service will be canceled on 28 routes and another 13 will be reduced or revised. Riders should visit the Metro Transit website to review the cuts and reductions and begin to assess daily travel plans for later this fall.
Stossel Bridge on NE Carnation Farm Road to close Aug. 25 for 3 months
Drivers should plan for a longer commute and a detour as construction crews move to completely close the Stossel Bridge over the Snoqualmie River near the city of Carnation for a repainting project from 7 a.m. Aug. 25 for three months.
Section of Green River Road closed for landslide repair
King County Road Services will completely close a section of Green River Road at 7 a.m. Aug. 14 for temporary repairs to the roadway due to a landslide caused by heavy rains last spring. Drivers will be detoured onto nearby 94th Place South. Work is scheduled to be completed Sept. 1. See the My Commute map for road alert details.
Quartermaster Harbor beaches closed for shellfish harvesting
Diarrhetic Shellfish Poison (DSP) has been detected at unsafe levels in Quartermaster Harbor shellfish on Vashon-Maury Island. As a result, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has closed Quartermaster Harbor beaches to recreational shellfish harvest. The closure includes clams, oysters, mussels, geoduck and scallops. Working with partners, Public Health – Seattle & King County is posting advisory signs at beaches warning people to not collect shellfish. Harvesters are advised to call the DOH Biotoxin Hotline at 1-800-562-5632 or visit the Biotoxin website before harvesting shellfish anywhere in Puget Sound.
Upgrades at the Weyerhaeuser-King County Aquatic Center
Major energy efficiency upgrades and other improvements are currently under way at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, requiring the facility to remain closed until October. For more information, read the press release.
Get ‘Out of the Box’ with King County Parks
King County Parks' new Out of the Box e-zine is a family-focused guide to exploring the great outdoors that can be found right in our own parks, backyards and open spaces. The seasonal family e-zine will feature content that encourages kids to explore nature through discovery, get outside and play, dig into their curiosity, live a fun and healthy life and interact with ideas that will help them learn how to be stewards of their backyards and beyond. Transportation discussion regarding unincorporated King County
The Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council (UAC), the Four Creeks UAC and the Upper Bear Creek Community Council scheduled a special meeting and invited the 18 local State Representatives, three local King County Council members and King County Department of Transportation officials on Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the King County Library Administration Building, 960 Newport Way NW in Issaquah to discuss King County unincorporated area transportation issues and potential solutions. The public is encouraged to attend.

Tree thinning at King County's Dockton Forest
On Aug. 18, King County began thinning 55 acres of Douglas-fir plantation in Dockton Forest on Maury Island. The work is expected to take 4-5 weeks.
