There has been record turnout at the 2016 Unincorporated
Community Service Area
(CSA) town hall and open houses in unincorporated King County. The open houses bring together the local County Councilmember and representatives from the Executive, Sheriff and numerous other County departments to meet with local residents and discuss issues affecting local communities. Community conversation on heroin and opiate addiction
Opiate overdose now claims more lives in American than traffic accidents. King County has seen heroin and prescription opiate addiction sharply increase. King County, Seattle, Auburn and Renton have jointly convened a task force to find solutions – and they want to hear from you. King County hosts two meetings about using large wood in river projects
Learn about King County projects that involve placing large wood in rivers or streams including information on five upcoming projects and a review of four completed projects that used large wood. Two meetings offering the same information are set for June 8, from 3 - 5 p.m. and again at 6 - 8 p.m. at the Mercer Island Community Center, 8236 SE 24th St. Mercer Island. King County Department of Community and Human Services is hosting three community meetings in June to gather input from residents and service providers on the most effective models of service delivery to the residents of rural communities. King County Parks Play Area Rehabilitation Program update
The playground at Ravensdale Park closed on April 4 for rehabilitation. Due to a delay with the equipment delivery from the manufacturer, it is now estimated to remain closed until late July. The playground at Tolt-MacDonald Park will close for rehabilitation starting in mid-July after the Timber! Outdoor Music Festival, and is expected to remain closed through September. These renovations are part of the King County Parks levy funded

Presidential Primary
The election deadline is Tuesday, May 24. For this election only, political parties require voters to pick a party in order to participate. Remember to mark a party declaration on the envelope and sign it, then choose a candidate from the corresponding party and mark it on the ballot. Road Services installing energy-saving LED lighting
Expect to see

Cottage Lake basketball courts
Construction work
on the Cottage Lake basketball courts began May 16. The project includes perimeter fence replacement, drainage improvements, installation of an acrylic colored playing surface and brand new sports equipment. Construction is expected to be completed by June 24, weather permitting.

Safety enhancements near Poo Poo Point
King County Road Services has installed curbing along
Issaquah-Hobart Road Southeast
near the paragliding landing field and parking lot. The purpose of the curbing is to prevent illegal parking which will enhance visibility for drivers passing by.

King County Comprehensive Plan update
The GMVUAC submitted transportation-related comments to the King County Council’s TrEE Committee on the Executive’s proposed update. Comments included the need for countywide “road networks” (which know no jurisdictional boundaries), as well as a better funding mechanism to help address unincorporated area road funding; the need for enforcement of transportation concurrency and better collaboration between jurisdictions; and elimination of the use of Transfer of Development Rights to satisfy transportation concurrency anywhere within the rural area. Additional comments dealing with economic development, growth management, and the environment will be submitted in June and July.
Snoqualmie Valley/Northeast King County Area
West Snoqualmie Valley Road NE construction underway
King County Road Services crews are reconstructing a portion of
West Snoqualmie Valley Road Northeast
and upgrading the drainage system. The roadway between Northeast 80th Street and Ames Lake Carnation Road Northeast will be closed until mid-November.
No Parking Signs
The good weather has inspired a large number of hikers to visit the Mt. Si Trail at SE Mount Si Road. The high volume of visitors has created an overflow parking issue that restricts access to the parking areas, and illegally parked vehicles on the roadway shoulders that encroach into the driving lanes. Road Services crews have installed 10 additional “No Parking/Tow Away” signs and placed a variable message board at SE Mount Si Road and SE 128th Place to warn trail users that illegally parked vehicles will be towed by the King County Sheriff’s Office.
