Engage with King County
36 grants awarded to unincorporated community organizations
The County Executive awarded 36 Community Service Area (SCA) grants to organizations in unincorporated King County. The CSA Grant program, with the support of County Council members, made awards including river clean-ups, neighborhood celebrations, senior and youth group support and musical events. For a complete list of the grantees see the CSA website.
Unincorporated CSA open houses scheduled for 2015
The 2015 CSA open houses in unincorporated King County are scheduled through April and June. The open houses bring together the local County Councilmember and representatives from the Executive, Sheriff and numerous other County officials to meet with local residents and discuss issues affecting local communities. Help shape the future of public transportation in King County

King County seeks applications for Youth Sports Facilities grants
King County’s Youth Sports Facilities Grant (YSFG) Program has helped build or renovate hundreds of public sports amenities at minimal taxpayer expense. Applications for King County YSFG Program grants will be accepted until June 19, with letters of intent due May 1. For more information, and an application packet, visit the website.
King County Comprehensive Plan
King County has begun the next major update of the King County Comprehensive Plan, which will be transmitted to the King County Council on March 1, 2016. Cirque at Marymoor Park, now through March 22!
Tickets are on sale now for Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities at King County’s Marymoor Park. Set in the latter half of the 19th Century, KURIOS follows the story of an inventor whose gadget-filled dreams come to life on stage, transporting audiences to a realm of discovery. Become a Master Recycler Composter volunteer
Learn how to recycle more at curbside and waste less food at home, then share what you learn through community outreach. Free volunteer outreach training is offered in April. For more information, visit the website. Applications are due March 14.
School to Work Transition fairs March 5 and 7
Students with developmental disabilities ages 14 to 21 and their parents are invited to attend a School to Work Transition Fair. Learn about services available to help you find a job and prepare for life in the community after high school graduation with onsite workshops and resource tables. Two dates – two locations! The April 28 Special Election is around the corner
Make sure you’re ready to vote. Voter registration deadlines are March 30 for address changes or other updates and April 20 for in-person voter registration for those not currently registered to vote in Washington state.
King County property values rebounding
Overall, King County property values increased 13.9 percent and property taxes increased by 4.1 percent. Individual property taxes vary depending on the property location. Only 17.5 cents of every property tax dollar supports services provided by King County government. The Assessor’s Office has created a short presentation to explain how property values and taxes are determined.
New free program aims at preventing seniors from falling
Almost 24,000 people over the age of 65 die each year from falling - and many of these preventable falls happen at home. A new program offered by King County Emergency Medical Services/Medic One promotes independence and safety at home for seniors who are vulnerable to falling. Learn more in the Public Health Insider.
New searchable immunization rate maps
With measles in the news, many people are wondering about the immunization rates at local schools. Public Health - Seattle & King County created searchable maps for residents to look up the number of students at King County schools who have completed all the required immunizations or shown proof of their immunity. Check out your local school on the website.

King County Comprehensive Plan (KCCP) Update
The area council submitted a set of comments on the KCCP Update’s Topical Areas. Consideration of topical areas is an early step in the 2016 KCCP update process. The area council sited several areas for potential discussion including siting of urban-serving facilities in the rural area; siting of Marijuana facilities in residential areas; and transportation road usage concerns among others. Safety and preparedness classes
There are several safety preparedness classes available to local residents offered by Auburn King County Fire District 44 and the Green Valley/Lake Holm Association. A CPR, First Aid and AED course yields a CPR/First Aid/AED Course card, valid for 2 years.Citizen Emergency Response Team training focuses on hazard preparedness and response to local disasters.
