Using This Site

The What do I do with...? site is intended to serve as a resource for King County residents and businesses seeking to dispose of unwanted materials. By using the search functions on these pages, you can find businesses and organizations that accept a variety of materials for recycling, refurbishing or resale.

Search for a Single Material

To find a single material or multiple materials within the same category, do one of the following:

• Go to the What do I do with...? home page, enter one or more key words in the "Search by key word" box and hit the Search button. This will open a page that lists all materials that match your search criteria. Click on a material name to view the category for that material. From there, indicate whether the waste is generated by a business or residence, select the materials you wish to recycle or dispose and click the Search button. Examples: Searching for "board" will return a broad list of every material that contains the word "board" in the description (circuit boards, plasterboard, keyboards, etc.). Searching for "cardboard" will return a more refined list that includes only those materials that contain the word "cardboard." Searching for "glass plastic" will return all materials that contain either "glass" or "plastic" in the material description. Or…
• Go to the What do I do with...? home page and select a general category of materials from the drop-down menu. This will open a page that lists specific materials that fall within that category. From there, indicate whether the waste is generated by a business or residence, select the materials you wish to recycle or dispose and click the Search button. The next page will list all the providers that accept the selected materials. Clicking the name of a particular provider will bring you to a page that lists that provider's contact information and relevant instructions or restrictions. Or…
• Go to the Materials List page to see a complete list of categories and materials included in the directory. Click on the appropriate category, and follow the same steps as listed above.

Search for Multiple Materials

To search for multiple materials within different categories at the same time, use the Advanced Search page. There, indicate whether the waste is generated by a business or residence, select the materials you wish to recycle or dispose and click the search button. Again, the next page will list all the providers that accept the selected materials. Clicking on the name of a particular provider will open a page that lists that provider's contact information and relevant instructions or restrictions.

Finding Recycling and Disposal Options for Materials Not Listed
