Urban Wood

Recyclable urban wood includes pallets, crates, finished and unfinished furniture, manufacturing scrap and more.

Each year, 94,000 tons of recyclable urban wood generated in King County is disposed.1 Recyclable urban wood includes pallets, crates, finished and unfinished furniture, manufacturing scrap and more.

Currently the primary use for recycled urban wood is hog fuel; 82% of all recyclable wood is sold to this market.2 King County investigated markets for recycled urban wood such as landscape chips, pulp feedstock and finger jointed lumber, and is working to develop a project to increase the use of the material in pulp for paper production.

Check back regularly for updated news and resources on what's happening with urban wood recycling in King County and development of a LinkUp project to support the recycled wood pulp market.
