Litter Reduction

Litter Reduction

The purpose of the litter reduction category is to help schools increase awareness that littering harms the environment and our quality of life and that each person can make a difference in reducing littering. Schools have decreased litter on school campuses by using a variety of targeted approaches.

Schools and school districts can reduce litter and expand recycling by following the ideas and tips listed in the litter reduction criteria of the Green Schools Program. There is one set of criteria for schools and another for school districts.

Schools and school districts can select litter reduction as one of the optional categories in either level two or level three of the King County Green Schools Program. Completing the litter reduction criteria fulfills one of the requirements toward receiving recognition as a level two or level three King County Green School or Green School District. See how the program works.
