Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions means curbing the release into the atmosphere of gases such as carbon dioxide that are emitted when fossil fuels such as gas and oil are burned.

Schools can:

  • Encourage or provide transportation alternatives
    • Award preferential parking for high-occupancy vehicles.
    • Provide commuter ride-matching services.
    • Initiate a no-idling policy for buses and cars at pick-up and drop-off times and request that delivery vehicles shut off their engines while unloading.
    • Offer subsidies for public transit fares or for commuter vans and carpools.
    • Work with transportation providers to supply additional service to site.
    • Make bicycle parking facilities and other accommodations available to promote bicycling and walking to work.

  • Use alternative sources of energy such as solar, wind and geothermal energy
