Forest Stewardship

Low elevation old forest in the Cedar River Municipal Watershed.

The Forest Stewardship Council (external) (FSC) is an international organization which promotes the long-term stewardship of the world's forests. The organization has developed international standards for responsible forest management. To ensure that these standards are adhered to, the organization accredits independent third party organizations who can certify forest managers and forest product producers that meet the FSC standards.

Why buy FSC certified wood?

Buying wood and wood products that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council ensures that the long-term sustainability of the forests that they were harvested from is maintained. Purchasing FSC wood may also qualify for credits under both the LEED™ and Built Green™ rating systems.

Where can I find FSC certified wood?

FSC wood products can be found at a growing number of retail locations. View a listing of current distributors (Excel spreadsheet, external).
