Is your company using best diversion/recycling practices at its job sites? If so, the CleanBin program wants to recognize you and tell others! CleanBin seeks to encourage proper jobsite recycling/diversion County-wide and to reward local construction teams who are properly separating garbage from C&D materials that have value. All new construction, remodeling and building removal job sites in King County are eligible.
Why apply?
CleanBin gives your company and your jobsite crews the recognition they deserve for conserving valuable resources. Companies with jobsites that qualify for the CleanBin list will be sent a recognition certificate and website graphic, and will be listed on the King County GreenTools website and in the newsletter. When the list is published, King County will conduct outreach to local business and trade media to publicize the honored companies and job sites.
Is my job site eligible?
To qualify for CleanBin your construction, remodel or building removal project must be in King County and completed between September 1, 2010 and September 1, 2011. Your company may submit more than one job site if you completed multiple projects during this time period. Job sites must meet the following two criteria:
- Have a garbage-only container on-site
- Achieve a minimum 75% diversion rate for new construction and remodel projects or a minimum 50% diversion for building removal projects. Don’t know your rate? Don’t worry! CleanBin offers the C&D Diversion Report – an online worksheet to help you calculate your diversion rate.
In addition, each company must provide the following documentation:
- Receipts documenting the destination and weight/volume of all C&D materials that left the jobsite (recycling, salvage, waste, etc.) or were reused on-site. These should be sent electronically (scan and e-mail) but other accommodations can be made, if necessary.
- Completed C&D Diversion Report. This can be filled out and submitted online.
- Copy of your job site’s list of what materials can (and cannot) go in the commingled recycling bin. This should be sent electronically but other accommodations can be made, if necessary.
What is the deadline?
Entries must be received by Nov. 23, 2011. Qualified CleanBin jobsites for 2011 will be promoted to local business and trade media in November.

To apply complete this form (PDF, 81 K), and follow its accompanying instructions. Please submit one application for each qualifying job site.
What is CleanBin?
CleanBin is a new recognition program sponsored by King County GreenTools. The purpose of CleanStream is to encourage clean recycling streams for construction and demolition (C&D) materials, primarily through the use of, at a minimum, a garbage-only container and at least one recycling container on job sites. Ultimately, the program seeks to increase code compliance and to eliminate the use of only one bin (which results in extra processing costs and extra residual/garbage at processing facilities).
