New hours take effect Jan. 2, 2010 at five transfer stations
Why: Since 2007, the Solid Waste Division has seen a decrease of approximately 15 percent in the amount of waste brought to its transfer facilities, with a corresponding decrease in revenue to operate the county's solid waste transfer and disposal system. Considering the tonnage and revenue decline, the division cannot afford to maintain the current operating hours.
Where: New operating hours will occur at the Algona, Bow Lake, Factoria, Houghton and Renton transfer stations. At this time, no changes are proposed for the Cedar Falls, Enumclaw, Shoreline or Vashon facilities, although the Division will continue to look at options that meet the overall needs of our customers while maintaining the financial integrity of the system.
