Proposed change in hours at five county transfer stations
What: The King County Solid Waste Division is proposing to change operating hours at five solid waste transfer facilities.
Why: Since 2007, the Solid Waste Division has seen a decrease of approximately 15 percent in the amount of waste brought to its transfer facilities, which equates to a 15 percent decrease in revenue to operate the system. Considering the tonnage and revenue decline, the division cannot afford to maintain the current operating hours.

Proposed hours changes will affect the Algona, Bow Lake, Factoria, Houghton and Renton transfer stations. At this time, no changes are proposed for the Cedar Falls, Enumclaw, Shoreline or Vashon facilities, although the Division will continue to look at options that meet the overall needs of our customers while maintaining the financial integrity of the system.
