Step 5: Uncover Hidden Toxins

Common products can contain some sketchy chemicals. Follow these tips to reduce your risk:

• When that “new shower curtain smell” seems overpowering, consider alternatives to shower curtains (external) made of vinyl (polyvinyl chloride, or PVC).
• Find greener alternatives for nail polish (or reduce your use) and nail polish remover (external), and be sure you dispose of them properly.
• Find alternatives to mothballs (external PDF), which are one of the more toxic (external) products you can have in your home.
• Don’t play around when it comes to toxics in toys and other children’s products (external).
• Clear the air in your home by considering alternatives to chemical air fresheners (external).
