Brownfields
Contaminated sites can harm the environment, hinder economic development and contribute to blight. The King County/City of Seattle Brownfields Program provides assistance to qualified private businesses and landowners, nonprofit organizations and municipalities within King County to assess and clean up contaminated sites, or brownfields. A brownfield site is defined as "real property, the expansion, redevelopment or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant." Site assessmentContaminated property may need to be assessed to determine the extent of contamination. The Brownfields Program provides assistance with environmental site assessments.
Site cleanupEnvironmental cleanup varies from site to site. The Brownfields Program provides assistance in navigating the regulatory and technical requirements of the cleanup process, interpreting consultant reports and developing possible cleanup options. Types of assistanceWho is eligible?
