Ashphalt Shingles

Potential markets for recycled asphalt shingles include hot mix asphalt, aggregate road base and cold patch.

An estimated 17,000 tons of asphalt shingle waste is generated by construction and demolition activities in King County each year. Less than 1,000 tons of these materials are currently recycled.1 Potential markets for recycled asphalt shingles include hot mix asphalt, aggregate road base and cold patch.

Shingle in Paving Demonstration Project

In 2007, LinkUp began working with the recycling and paving community to champion the development of a hot mix asphalt (HMA) end market for tear-off shingles by securing and conducting a paving trial in the Puget Sound area that incorporates this material. An advisory group was formed to research project options and testing protocols. Learn more about the Shingles in Paving Demonstration Project.
