Focus Materials

Each year LinkUp evaluates and selects focus materials as priorities for recycling.  Focus materials are chosen based on four criteria:

1. Need for improved markets for material.
2. Recycling of material has proven successful in markets elsewhere in the country.
3. Material has market status in Puget Sound area that indicates opportunity.
4. The LinkUp program has the resources to make a significant impact to increase recycling of the material.

The LinkUp team also works to stay aware of emerging opportunities for materials other than the focus materials.

Focus materials by year:

2011 – Asphalt shingles, carpet, mattresses

2010 – Asphalt shingles, carpet, mattresses

2009 – Asphalt shingles, expanded polystyrene, carpet

2008 - Asphalt shingles, container glass, expanded polystyrene

2007 - Asphalt shingles, container glass, gypsum wallboard
