Three big football games this weekend

Photo: Metro Special Service busCollege and pro football fans will have plenty of local action this weekend, as the Cougars, Huskies and Seahawks all play in Seattle. Metro will provide either regular or special service to all three games.

The University of Washington Huskies take on Idaho in Husky Stadium at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Take Metro to the game – either regular service or shuttles from eight outlying park-and-ride lots. The ride is free on any Metro bus when you show your Husky game ticket or ticket stub to the bus driver.

The Washington State Cougars make their annual cross-mountain trip to take on the Grambling Tigers Saturday, Sept. 17 at Qwest Field at 4 p.m. There is no special shuttle service for this year's WSU game. However, you can park free at any park-and-ride lot and ride regular Metro service directly to and from Qwest Field. Use the online Trip Planner to figure out the best route.

On Sunday, the Seahawks kick off against the Atlanta Falcons at 1:05 p.m. at Qwest Field. The Seahawks and Metro Transit are providing non-stop shuttle service for home games from five area park-and-ride lots for $3 each way.

Details for all the football service can be found on Metro Online.

Last auction in Graybar Building this Wednesday

The King County Department of Transportation’s Fleet Administration is conducting its last monthly Spot Bid Auction at the current Graybar warehouse location this Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fleet will be moving its surplus operations to a new location in Georgetown in October, so the next spot auction won’t be held until Nov. 16.

The September auction features individual and bulk lots of surplus computers, computer equipment, laptop computers, office furniture, filing cabinets, and much more. There are approximately 75 lots in this auction, so come early to give yourself plenty of time to check out all the items.

Previews are on auction day only, from 10 a.m. until noon. Bidding starts at noon. The Graybar Warehouse is located at 416 Occidental Ave. South, Seattle.

For more information, visit the auction website.

New opportunity at KCIA

Photo: Opportunity skyway classA new Opportunity Skyway school year is underway for students enrolled in the award-winning program at King County International Airport. This year, two more teachers are being added to the staff, making a total of four, full-time teachers available to students.

The year-round classes have the highest graduation rate for any dropout program in the Seattle School District. Last year 58 students graduated from Opportunity Skyway.

Now beginning its eighth year, Opportunity Skyway is a regional education initiative that uses aviation to excite students about math, science, and aviation career opportunities. Students enrolled in all-day classes spend about half their time working on academic studies to earn their high school diploma or GED, and the other half is spent in hands-on workshops building gliders, kites, hot air balloons, wind tunnels and even full-sized kit aircraft.
