Project description
Monitor condition of pipe, Place emergency response facilities, replace existing culvert.
Why is King County doing this project?
The 48 inch diameter culvert is severely deformed 35 feet below the surface of the road and a portion of the bottom of the pipe has rusted through. Complete collapse of the culvert or its plugging appears imminent. If that occurs the sole access road could become impassable.

Road Services will replace a collapsing culvert under Lake Alice Road Southeast this summer. The construction will last for approximately 12 weeks starting in July and ending in September. The road will be closed 8 to 10 weeks during the construction period. The 48-inch culvert lies 35 feet beneath the road at 339th Ave Southeast. The county will replace it with a 16-foot box culvert that can handle 100-year flows. The new culvert’s floor will be designed to mimic a stream bed to allow fish passage. The county will also replace a rock wall at the site. This part of Lake Alice Road Southeast provides sole access to about 200 homes. A detour route via Southeast Sorenson Street and through the Snoqualmie Ridge community to Snoqualmie Parkway, used during emergency repairs to the roadway last fall, will be reopened for use during this construction. The county hosted a public meeting on May 14, 2013 to share information about the project and gathered public comments.
