Project description
The N.E. Novelty Hill Road project is to design and construct the first phase of a two phase plan. The first phase includes road improvements to Union Hill Road in the vicinity of 196th Ave N.E, 196th/195th Ave. N.E. from Union Hill Road N.E. to Novelty Hill Road, and Novelty Hill Road at 196th Ave N.E. Work will include the replacement of the Evans Creek Bridge, construction of two roundabouts on 196th Ave N.E. at Novelty Hill Road and N.E. Union Hill Road, a wildlife crossing at 195th Ave. N.E.
Why is King County doing this project?
This project will provide the first phase of connection from the Redmond Ridge and Trilogy urban planned developments to Redmond and SR 520. There are several high accident locations along this roadway that this project will address.

Phase I of the N.E. Novelty Hill Road project continues to proceed on-schedule. Completed tasks at the various sites include: the north side of wildlife crossing, bridge girder placement for Evans Creek Bridge, several box culvert installations, stream mitigation, storm ponds, utility relocation, retaining walls built, roadways raised and guardrails installed.
Other completed work associated with the project includes: trail bridge raised, berms and overflow structures installed and pond grading.

Environmental informationThe proposed project provides opportunities to improve degraded stream, wetland, and wildlife habitat conditions. Stream, wetland, and wildlife habitat would be improved through restoring fish passage in Stensland Creek - a tributary to Bear Creek; replacing culverts with fish-passable culverts in streams throughout the project area, improving stream habitat, creating/enhancing wetlands, and constructing road crossings to accommodate passage of small and large wildlife species.
