King County to hold open house to discuss future
road improvements to Novelty Hill Road network
The
King County Road
Services Division will hold an open house from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.,
Thursday, May 5th at Evergreen Junior High School in Redmond to gather
comments from residents on the scope of environmental issues they think
should be considered as part of a study of possible improvements to
Northeast Novelty Road and adjacent roadways.
The county is preparing an environmental impact study (EIS) that will look
at a variety of new alternatives for improving the roadways to connect
planned urban density and employment in the cities of Redmond, Bellevue and
Seattle and to accommodate Urban Planned Developments and growth in the
Duvall, Carnation, Monroe and south Snohomish County areas. The EIS will
consider immediate transportation improvements designed to enhance safety
and connections to major arterials in addition to possible improvements that
may be needed to support traffic volumes projected to occur over the next 25
years.
The county’s EIS will focus on a range of possible improvements on the busy
roadway between Avondale Road and 243rd Avenue Northeast. The county is also
studying possible improvements to 208th Avenue Northeast, Union Hill Road
and 196th Avenue Northeast.
During the open house, residents will learn more about the various
alternatives for improving the area’s roadways and be asked to identify the
types of potential environmental issues, such as traffic, noise, air or
habitat impacts they think should be explored by the county. Written
comments will also be accepted and should be sent by June 1, 2005 to Barbara
de Michele, King County Department of Transportation, 201 S. Jackson St.,
KSC-TR-0824, Seattle, WA 98104. Residents can also send their comments via
email to
Barbara.demichele@metrokc.gov.
The county plans to complete the study and issue a draft EIS containing a
preferred alternative next year. A final EIS is expected to be complete by
2007. If improvements are made, construction could start as early as 2009.
Evergreen Junior High School is located at 6900 208th Avenue Northeast,
Redmond. For more information about the open house, contact Barbara de
Michele at (206) 263-3792 or e-mail her at
barbara.demichele@metrokc.gov.
