Open house features design ideas King County Metro Transit will be hosting an open house to present design ideas for redeveloping the Burien Transit Center. The meeting will be held Tuesday, March 15 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Burien Community Center Conference Room, 425 SW 144th St. Information on display at the open house will include architectural elements for the transit center and proposals for public art. The transit center is located at 14900 4th Ave. SW in downtown Burien. At a previous open house in October, visitors were able to view the “footprint” of the new transit center, comment on features they deemed important to them, and meet with design team consultants, Metro staff, and members of the Burien Community Advisory Group (CAG). The March 15 open house will be the public’s opportunity to review the proposals for public art and architectural design elements in the new transit center to date, and to provide comment. Construction of the new transit center is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2006, and it should be open by February 2007. The transit center project budget is approximately $7 million, which includes funding from a combination of local and federal grant funds. For information about the open house, contact Betty Gulledge-Bennett, KCDOT community relations planner, at (206) 263-3436, or by email.
