News from King County Transportation Release date: Sept. 15, 2004 Gone and going again King County to auction off last Kingdome goal post on eBay The last official goal post from the Kingdome – home of the Seattle Seahawks from 1976 to 1999 – is now up for bid on the Internet. The goal post has been buried among other King County surplus items for several years. Staff from the King County Department of Transportation’s Fleet Administration Division, which manages the county’s surplus equipment, have recently been cleaning house and unearthed the regulation-size goal post. The Kingdome was demolished in 2000 and the other two goal posts used at the stadium were sold at a memorabilia auction later that same year. Most Kingdome memorabilia is already in the hands of museums and private collectors – one collection of small Kingdome items is currently on display in the Hall of Hobbies at the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup. This goal post comes in four lightweight aluminum pieces, with an 18-foot-six-inch wide crossbar and two 20-foot uprights, ready for assembly in the winning bidder’s “home field.” The bright yellow and sturdy NFL veteran was in place during many of the Seahawks greatest years, and was the target of Seahawk kickers from John Leypoldt to Todd Peterson. The minimum bid is $100, and shipping is not included. The auction closes on Sept. 22. Anyone interested in bidding on the goal post, can check it out at: www.metrokc.gov/auction.
