News from King County Transportation Release date: July 29, 2004 Community members needed to advise county on Mt. Si Bridge The King County Road Services Division is recruiting additional members for the Community Advisory Group (CAG) that will advise the county on design and construction issues associated with replacing the Mt. Si Bridge near North Bend. The county is seeking four or five new CAG members who reside in the area around the bridge, which spans the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River on Southeast Mt. Si Road. The volunteers should be able to commit to attending four to five CAG meetings and one or two larger public meetings. Most of the meetings will be scheduled for weekday evenings. Eligible members cannot have a direct financial interest in the project. The county is replacing the bridge to eliminate deficiencies, improve safety, reduce high maintenance costs, and improve the reliability and longevity of the river crossing. The 100-year-old bridge is at the end of its useful life as a vehicular bridge. The bridge has other limitations, including: narrow travel lanes with no shoulders; no area for pedestrians and bicyclists; low overhead clearance; and load restrictions. Plus, it does not meet current earthquake standards. The project is expected to enter the design phase this fall. Anyone interested in serving on the CAG should submit a letter to the King County Department of Transportation outlining why they are interested and describing any past community involvement experiences. Send the letter by Friday, Aug. 13 to:
