The goal is to provide education and incentives that encourage everyone in the city to travel in healthier ways for themselves and their community. The sponsors are working with local individuals and businesses over the summer to make it easier to leave cars behind and travel by bus, carpool, bike, foot or other non-motorized methods. The "In Motion" project was created by Metro and is funded through federal grants. It starts by providing residents, employees and shoppers with convenient travel information and assistance. This comes via a project website; information mailed directly to 5,000 homes in the community; and the "Get In Motion" event on Saturday, June 19 at Lake Forest Park Town Center in the Third Place Commons, at the corner of Ballinger Way Northeast and Bothell Way Northeast. Saturday’s event will feature information about the many travel options available in and around Lake Forest Park. You can also tour a historic Metro bus, a new hybrid bus, and a Sound Transit bus. Bus drivers will be available to answer questions about the vehicles and Metro rider information specialists will assist you in planning your next bus trip. You can also find out about the value of adding steps to your daily activities. Also, the Cascade Bicycle Club will fit and sell reduced price helmets. There will be kids’ activities, fun giveaways for all ages, online demonstrations of bus trip planning, and a wealth of information to help you get around Lake Forest Park in a healthy, earth-friendly way. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ongoing "In Motion" program also provides incentives to prompt local residents to make healthier travel choices. Those who join and participate in "Club Motion" are eligible to receive Metro free-ride tickets, vouchers for transit passes and tickets, plus they are entered into drawings to win other prizes. Club Motion is open to those who: live, work, shop or play in Lake Forest Park; are 16 or older; and have at least one car in their household. The only other requirement is that participants pledge to convert at least two car trips per week to traveling by bus, bike, carpool or foot.
