passengers who use the
Eastgate
Park-and-Ride lot in Bellevue should prepare for changes at the lot
starting this weekend and lasting until June.
Beginning Saturday, Dec. 6, parking and bus boarding locations at the
current Eastgate lot will be shifted due to the construction of a new
five-story parking garage on the lot.
Construction of the new Eastgate Park-and-Ride garage has reached the
halfway mark, and parts of the lot must be closed to give the contractor access
to the remaining work until the project is complete. Here are some of the
changes passengers should expect:
- Bus loading zones are being moved away from Eastgate Way to these three
locations on the western side of the park-and-ride:
Bay A serves Route 222 to Bellevue, 245 to Factoria, 921, and 926 to
Crossroads;
Bay B serves Route 217, 222 to Overlake, 225, 229, 245 to Kirkland,
247, and 271;
Bay C serves Route 272, 554, 555, 888, 890 and 921 to Somerset/Factoria.
- Cars no longer enter at 140th Avenue Southeast and Eastgate
Way. Instead, motorists have two options off of Eastgate Way, either 139th
Avenue Southeast or just east of 142nd Avenue Southeast.
- The parking areas remaining open will be split into two sections – one
east of 140th Avenue Southeast and the other east of 142nd
Avenue Southeast.
- School routes 989 to Lakeside and 998 to Overlake will not stop at the
current Eastgate lot. Passengers should board those routes at the interim lot
at 13620 Eastgate Way.
There are no changes at the Eastgate interim park-and-ride lot, which is
located about six blocks west of the area under construction. For more details,
visit Metro Online.
The new garage should be ready for use by June 2004. The project is being
done in partnership with the Washington State Department of Transportation,
which owns and originally built the lot. When completed, the Eastgate
Park-and-Ride will have a total of 1,650 parking stalls – more than double its
current capacity.
