Metro buses return to ‘The Ave’ in the U-District

With reconstruction of University Way Northeast in Seattle nearing completion, King County Metro Transit buses will return to regular routing in the U-District after a year-long detour.

Starting Saturday, July 26, Metro Routes 71, 72, 73, 74, 78 and 83 will again serve bus stops on University Way Northeast between Northeast Campus Parkway and Cowen Place Northeast.

The routes have been running along 15th Avenue Northeast during the construction project. While the city of Seattle was reconstructing the road, Metro was busy upgrading the bus shelters along University Way – also known as "The Ave."

King County Metro Transit partnered with the city to improve streets, sidewalks, bus stops, and landscaping to help revitalize the University District. The project also involved The Ave Planning Group and the Greater University Chamber of Commerce. As part of the project some bus stops were consolidated and new waiting areas were constructed. To help improve security, new shelters with internal lighting were installed. King County contributed $250,000 in improvements for "The Ave" project.
