Skykomish River Bridge closes
on July 15 for two months

The Skykomish River Bridge spanning the south fork of the Skykomish River, west of the town of Skykomish, will be closed for two months beginning Tuesday, July 15 at 7 a.m. through Thursday, September 25.

During the closure, the King County Department of Transportation Road Services Division will be completing a major seismic upgrade on the bridge. Retrofit work includes replacing bridge bearings, repairing and strengthening bearing end walls, adding restrainers and girder stops, constructing new walls underneath the ends of the bridge, and rebuilding the roadway at both ends of the bridge with structural fill. The total project cost is $1 million.

The bridge is located 170 feet south of U.S. Highway 2 and Northeast Money Creek Road (Northeast Old Stevens Pass Highway). It is near Money Creek State Park, and is sometimes referred to as the Money Creek Bridge.

During the closure, the detour route runs east along U.S. Highway 2 toward Skykomish, then south through the town of Skykomish to the Old Cascade Highway (also known as the Old Stevens Pass Highway). From there, the detour continues west to the Money Creek Campground and the south end of the bridge.

The Miller River Bridge, located on the detour route, has height, width, and weight restrictions. In some cases, overweight trucks will have to obtain a special use permit for crossing the bridge. For permit information during the bridge closure, please contact King County Property Services at (206) 296-7456, or go to the Property Services web site.

More information and maps of the project area are available online, or by calling Marnie McGrath, DOT community relations, at 206-684-1154 (voice) or 206-684-1682 (TTY).
