The city of Kirkland will host a meeting for the King County Road Services
Division to preview its plans for safety improvements on 124th Avenue
Northeast.
The project open house will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 4-7 p.m. at
Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, 12040 NE 128th St., Kirkland in Room 100
(tan).
In the fall, Roads will launch an eight-month, $3.4 million project to
improve 124th Avenue between Northeast 132nd Street and Northeast 146th Place.
The project will include:
- A new two-way turn lane in the center of the road;
- Five-foot wide bicycle lanes on both sides of the road;
- New curbs, gutters, and sidewalks; and
- An improved drainage system and a short-term water detention area for
storm runoff.
King County has also reached an agreement with the city of Kirkland to
extend the roadway and pedestrian improvements on 124th Avenue about 500 feet
south of NE 132nd Street. This will allow the southern segment to match the
county’s project by including two through lanes, left and right-turn lanes,
curbs and gutters, concrete sidewalks, signal modifications, retaining walls,
and landscaping.
