This Saturday, King County Metro Transit will hold its 27th
Annual "Metroadeo" – an event where bus drivers go bumper-to-bumper to see who
has the best driving skills in the county.
The event will be held June 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Metro’s Training and
Safety Center, 11911 E. Marginal Way S., Tukwila. It is held in conjunction
with the yearly King County Employees Auto Show. Both events are open to the
public.
The annual Metroadeo competition pits bus drivers against their peers on a
closed course. Metro winners often go on to compete – very successfully – at
the state and national levels. There is also a separate competition for teams
of mechanics from Metro’s vehicle maintenance division.
To get to the Training and Safety Center from I-5 southbound:
- Take Exit 158 "Pacific Hwy/E. Marginal Way" (stay right on the exit
ramp);
- Right on Boeing Access Road (move to far left lane on Boeing Access
Road);
- Make a hard left at East Marginal Way S. (the first traffic light you
come to);
- After the bridge crossing the river, bear to the right at the fork in the
road just prior to the traffic light;
- After crossing the overpass, take the next right, at S.120th Place (just
before the crosswalk sign); the driving course is behind Building A.
The auto show will feature county employees’ personal vehicles, including
antique, classic and special-interest cars, trucks, motorcycles and buses. The
auto show runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., with awards presented at 1:30 p.m.
