The King County Road Services Division is preparing to complete the second
phase of improvements for Northeast 124th Street between State Route
202 (Redmond-Woodinville Road) and Willows Road.
A public meeting will be held Thursday, Dec. 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30
p.m. at the Washington Cathedral, 12300 Redmond-Woodinville Rd. NE, in Redmond.
Meeting attendees will have an opportunity to view plans and ask questions
of project engineers.
Northeast 124th Street crosses the Sammamish Valley north of the
60 Acres soccer complex, providing an important connection between the rapidly
developing Bear Creek community and Interstate 405 near Totem Lake.
The final two phases of work include: raising and widening the road from two
lanes to four; building new 8-foot-wide shoulders; and making improvements to
the underpass crossing for the Sammamish River Trail. There are also plans to
synchronize traffic signals in the 124th Street corridor from Totem
Lake to SR 202.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2003, and the county
plans to stage it in segments to lessen the impact on motorists. One or two
short road closures may be necessary, but the county will provide advance
notice. The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2004.
