County hosts meeting on
replacing Harris Creek Bridge
The King County Road Services Division is seeking public input on
alternatives to replace the Harris Creek Bridge between Carnation and Duvall.
A public meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
at Stillwater Elementary School, 11530 320th Ave. NE, Carnation.
The bridge is located on Kelly Road Northeast, immediately east of the
intersection with Big Rock Road. Although Harris Creek Bridge is relatively
small, it is an important link in the transportation network for the
communities of Lake Joy, Stillwater Hill, Carnation and Duvall.
Replacing the bridge is necessary due to structural problems, including
rotting timbers and rusting support beams. The bridge’s poor condition combined
with the limitations of its original design make rebuilding it too costly. King
County has received a federal grant that should cover approximately 80 percent
of the replacement cost.
The county is considering four alternatives for replacing the bridge; three
of the alternatives involve realigning the intersection of Big Rock Road and
Kelly Road to improve sight lines and make the roadways safer. The fourth
alternative would replace the bridge in its current location, with no
improvements made to the intersection of Big Rock Road and Kelly Road
At the meeting, the public can review the alternatives and ask questions
about the replacement and realignment process. Construction is not scheduled to
begin until 2005.

project website.
