King County considers reducing speed limit on portion of Southeast High Point Way

The King County Road Services Division will hold a public hearing at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, in downtown Seattle to gather comments on a proposal to reduce the speed limit on a quarter-mile stretch of Southeast High Point Way in Preston.

The division is considering lowering the speed limit from 35 miles per hour to 30 mph on Southeast High Point Way from Southeast 82nd Street to nearly Southeast 87th Place. The proposed speed limit reduction responds to community concern over speeds in the commercial/industrial area and a traffic analysis that found the current speed limit to be inconsistent with the area's character. The proposed speed limit reduction is designed to increase safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

The hearing will be held in Room 2A of the King Street Center, which is located at 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle.

Written comments will also be accepted through June 25 and should be forwarded to Scott Sawhill, 201 S. Jackson St., KSC-TR-0222, Seattle, WA 98104-3856. Comments can also be faxed to (206) 296-0176 or e-mailed to scott.sawhill@metrokc.gov. For more information, call the Traffic Engineering Section at (206) 263-6134.
