News ReleaseRelease date: April 19, 2001 Motor coaches to replace Waterfront Streetcars again to accommodate repairs on Alaskan Way Viaduct Due to weekend construction work that starts Friday on the Alaskan Way Viaduct, Metro’s Waterfront Streetcars will once again be replaced with regular diesel buses. Starting early Friday morning and for four days, through the end of service on Monday night, the waterfront streetcars will be replaced with diesel coaches that will operate along Alaskan Way, making stops at or near existing streetcar platforms. Service will operate in both directions according to normal streetcar schedules. Streetcar operations are expected to return to normal on Tuesday morning. For additional information on the weekend streetcar modifications, log-on to Metro Online at http://transit.metrokc.gov/ or call (206) 553-3000.Metro's Waterfront Streetcar service is being modified due to construction and repair work being performed on the Alaska Way Viaduct by the Washington State Department of Transportation. Two more streetcar replacements are scheduled for the weekend of April 28-29, and again the second or third weekend of May.
