Traffic-signal priority for buses. Real-time bus arrival information. Travel information on the Internet. Vehicle detection systems. Changeable lane assignments at intersections. Those are some of the high-tech traffic monitoring and control systems the King County Department of Transportation will begin installing later this year along congested Northeast 124th Street in the Totem Lake area. Representatives of the department's Road Services Division will be at an open house sponsored by the city of Kirkland on Thursday, March 29, to discuss its Northeast 124th Street Interconnect Traffic Signals Project. This project uses computer technology to reduce congestion and improve safety conditions. Thursday, March 29 King County is planning the Northeast 124th Street project with other local, state and federal agencies. Using various technologies, they are working to increase the efficiency of moving people and goods, enhance the safety and security of travelers, and enhance transit speed and reliability.
