News ReleaseRelease date: March 6, 2001 Metro Transit Proposing to Revise Bus Service on EastsideMetro Transit is proposing to revise bus service on the Eastside to run buses more often, extend hours of operation, restructure or discontinue routes with lower ridership, improve connections between major employment and commercial centers, reduce duplication with new Sound Transit service and take riders to more places in downtown Bellevue. Metro also has proposals related to service reductions made in February 2000. If approved, the proposed revisions will take effect Sept. 29, 2001. Metro mailed a brochure and questionnaire about the proposals to households and businesses on the Eastside in late February. Metro also is holding open houses and an information table during the first two weeks in March to gather feedback from the public on the proposals. The brochure, questionnaire, and open houses dates and locations are posted on Metro Online at http://transit.metrokc.gov/. To request a copy of the brochure or get information about the open houses, the public also can call (206) 684-1955 (voice) or (206) 684-1682 (TTY). Public comments and questionnaire responses will be reviewed by Metro Transit as it develops recommendations for Eastside service changes in March. Metro will hold a public meeting on the King County Executive's recommendations before they are sent to the King County Council for review. The County Council is scheduled to take action in April or May on the County Executive's recommendations. |
