Sims to thank Metro voters, riders and employees

King County Executive Ron Sims will personally thank the customers and employees of Metro Transit – and the voters who supported the Yes on Metro ballot proposition – with a special appearance tomorrow.

    Tuesday, December 12, 11 a.m.
Metro bus stop at southeast corner of Fourth and Union next to Rainier Square

Sims and some "elves" will shake hands with riders and drivers and pass out holiday candy canes to show his support for public transit. Sims will be joined by several customers who represent constituencies that depend on public transit, such as the elderly, disabled, and those trained in through the King County Jobs Initiative.

Sims will also speak on an historic milestone that is expected to be reached sometime before the end of the year – the 100-millionth passenger trip to be taken on Metro Transit during a single calendar year. Such a milestone would be a first in the 28-year history of Metro Transit and will be marked with a special celebration scheduled for Jan. 4, 2001.
