300 at-risk youth better prepared for work and school

Local YouthSource center honored as one of nation's best

Nearly 300 young people in our region will end this year with better work and educational prospects after completing programs offered through YouthSource Renton, an innovative multi-agency education, employment and development center for at-risk youth program being honored as the nation's premier youth program by the U.S. Department of Labor.

At an event this Friday, King County Executive Ron Sims will also be honored for his support of YouthSource, which has received the Recognition of Excellence Award in the "connecting America's youth to the workforce" category at the national 2008 Workforce Innovations Conference in New Orleans.

Young people from the program will speak and be available to interview, along with staff of YouthSource. Media can also learn about the two centers that, along with YouthSource, form the new Building Futures program connecting court-involved and at-risk young people with education and employment opportunities.

When: Friday, Sept. 5 at 3:30 p.m.

Where: YouthSource, located at WorkSource Renton
