King County wins "Best of Web" award
Citation is one of five for online excellence
The Center for Digital Government has named King County's website www.metrokc.gov one of the top five Best of Web county portals in 2006 as part of its Digital Government Achievement Awards. The awards recognize state and local government portals deemed most innovative and user-friendly. Sites are also judged on web-delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for access to all citizens.
This is King County's fifth award this year for its online presence. The others include:

A commendation for King County on the CIO Magazine Top 100 Innovators list in the government category. According the magazine, winners had to demonstrate that they were able to create new value using information technology, that they executed their project well, and that they did so in uncommon, innovative ways that set the bar higher for competitors.

Winner of the 2006 Digital Government Achievement Award in the government-to-citizen category by King County's Water and Land Resources Division for its Northwest Native Plant Landscaping Guide Web application, awarded by the Center for Digital Government.

Winner of the 2006 Digital Education Achievement Award in the student-focused category, by Water and Land Resources Division's Groundwater Protection Program, which created the educational animation entitled "The Groundwater Story" in partnership with Seattle Public Schools, the City of Renton, Washington, the conservation group Water Tenders and the production artists at Leaping Media. This honor was awarded by the Center for Digital Education.

A tie for 2nd place for King County's overall website in the Digital Counties Survey of top digital counties for regions with a population of 500,000 or more. The survey included more than 100 measurements and data points about online service delivery, infrastructure, architecture, and governance models.
"These awards recognize the wonderful strides King County has made to improve access to our services for our residents," said County Executive Ron Sims. "My vision is to use technology to leverage our resources and improve access to services and quality of life for people countywide. This is just the beginning of great technological advances in our region that are transforming how we operate and serve our community."
