Feb. 11, 2003
Parks Task Force recommends a modest levy to support regional parks
The Metropolitan Parks Task Force today issued its unanimous recommendation that King County place on the May 2003 ballot a 5.5-cent, six-year operating levy to keep regional parks open and improve maintenance.

Metropolitan Parks Task Force to release recommendations
The Metropolitan Parks Task Force held its final meeting today to address long-term solutions for King County’s parks system in the face of budget shortfalls. The Task Force refined their recommendations and the final document will be available on the Web site, on Thursday.

Sims, Phillips, Edmonds commend work of Metropolitan Parks Task Force
King County Executive Ron Sims, Councilmember and Budget Chair Larry Phillips and Councilmember and Natural Resources and Parks Committee Chair Carolyn Edmonds today commended the Metropolitan Parks Task Force members for their outstanding work as they issued their preliminary recommendations for the future of King County Parks. The Task Force recommended a menu of options for how the parks should be owned, operated and funded long-term.

The Metropolitan Parks Task Force, created by King County Executive Ron Sims, King County Councilmembers Larry Phillips and Carolyn Edmonds to address long-term solutions for the region’s parks in the face of budget shortfalls, today announced its membership roster.

King County Parks budget
Message to employees from Executive Sims. Today I announced that our financial crisis has forced me to immediately cut an additional $1 million from the Parks budget. These mid-year cuts to King County Parks are in addition to the $2.3 million in cuts that were implemented at the start of the year.

Many park closures to continue; fees, longer term plans announced
King County Executive Ron Sims and County Councilmembers Cynthia Sullivan, Larry Phillips and Carolyn Edmonds today announced that 20 County parks will remain closed throughout the year due to the County's ongoing financial crisis as these leaders seek to find a way to establish long term stability for the region's parks.
