To the family and Peace Officer family of Deputy Herzog: The pain will never go away, just be dulled.
The good times will fade, but never be forgotten. The bad times will be forgotten and
always forgiven. The words "killed in the line of duty" will always describe a hero. And
your family will always have the love, support and respect you've earned through your
sacrifice. We know these things to be true as only another family that has
lost an officer can really know. Our heartfelt condolences! Anonymous
I do believe that each of us has a calling. Each of us has a niche which
we must find and in which we will grow and thrive. For some it's teaching. For some it's
healing. For some it's protecting. The calling to protect one's brothers and sisters is as
holy and important as the callings to teach and heal and build and create. When one is
the recipient of this protection, it is perhaps the greatest calling of all. Deputy Herzog heeded his calling, found
his place in life, and blessed us all. Jim Bowman
I remember back in 1998 when I was injured on duty and Rich stopped by the house
to introduce himself and check on me. He did it because he heard I lived in the neighborhood,
and he did it because I was a brother in law enforcement. We waved back and forth at
each other as he was going to and coming home from work when our paths crossed on the
roads. Rich didn't have to come by and visit me when I was injured, but he did,
and I'll never forget it. Greg Pressel
I am deeply saddened by this senseless tragic event. It is because
of the hard work and sacrifices of people like Deputy Herzog that the rest
of us are able to live a peaceful life. Many thanks to him, and the entire police
fraternity. Ashish
Thank you Deputy Herzog for simply being a good cop. Day and and day out
members in your profession are critisized and second guessed by those who enjoy the very
freedoms that you provide. You and your fellow officers do so with a firm resolve and
quiet humility. You will always be remembered as a man who did his job to the best
of his ability. Your community should never forget the service that you provided. I.M.
My sister is a police officer for Seattle and I know how this has affected not only her but our family. Our hearts go out to you at this time. Just remember that he is with God and he will always be watching over you. Jamie
I am deeply saddened and disturbed by this recent tragic event. My heart goes out to the family and friends of officer Herzog. I deeply admire and respect anyone who choose to put their lives on the line every day to protect the citizens of this state. I for one am very proud of our officers and the work that they do each and every day. Kim Hewitt
MAY GOD BLESS AND FOLLOW ALL OF YOU IN THE DAYS TO COME.YOU HAVE OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHYS. OUR PRAYERS WILL BE WITH YOU. CATHY
As a volunteer for the Auburn police department, I have deep respect for our fellow officers, And when tragedy strikes we all grieve for the family and friends left behind, May God bless the family. My prayers are with them. Charles Tozer
My heart goes out to Deputy Richard Herzog's wife and children in this unbearable time. He is a true hero. I believe this case speaks loud and clear that we need to allow our law enforcement officers decide for themselves the necessary means to subdue a suspect or to protect themselves and the public from dangerous criminals without continuously being second guessed by the community...If anytime the use of deadly force was warranted it would certainly have been in this case. Please give our law enforcement hero's the tools to do their jobs and and allow them to do what they are trained to do...Thank you to Deputy Richard Herzog and family. And God Bless you. Angela
Law enforcement is a family, and when we lose a brother or sister my heart is broken. Today my heart is broken because yet another of my brothers has been lost to the senseless and unnecessary violence that we seek to prevent. I commend Deputy Herzog for honoring his oath to place the safety of others before his own, and he will forever be remembered as a hero among his brother and sister officers. We in the Oregon law enforcement community share in the grief of our brothers and sisters in Washington, and to all at the King County Sheriff's Office know that we are behind you. Officer Eric M. Bunday, St. Helens Police Department
I would like to express sincere condolances to the freinds and family of slain officer Richard Herzog. It is an incredible tragedy to lose an officer under such tragic circumstances. Our prayers are with your family Robert Tucker
although i didn't know deputy herzog personally, i do live just blocks from his south hill home. it breaks my heart to know the pain his wife and children are going through. you are in my thoughts. Jenna

My heart goes out to the entire family of this officer. Please be strong. Debbie M.
I was sadden by the death of officer Herzog. Most of all I want to offer my deepest sympathy to his wife and famliy.
I am an African American and when I heard of his death I cried not for a white man that was killed but for a human life that was taken in a senseless and tragic manner. This has got to stop, all the killings of innocent people have got to end. Lela Coleman
Our heartfelt sympathies to the Herzog family and his police family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God bless you all. Jim & Bobbi
My prayers are with the Herzog family. It is hard to put into words the tragedy that occured this weekend. This is a time for mourning and the best thing we as a community to do is to try to not let this kind barbaric murder happen again. We have to stop tying the hands of law enforcement and let them do their job. My God bless Deputy Herzog.
To Mrs. Herzog & family: I knew your husband. I served with him in the early 90's with the 1st Special Forces Group at Ft. Lewis. We affectionately called him, "Zog." He was a great soldier and a great man. He taught me some very valuable lessons about "life" -- most of which were by example. I will never forget him. To have known Richard Herzog and call him "friend" has been an honor and a blessing. Rarely do we meet such great men in life. To be sure, the world was a better place for Richard having lived in it. I will miss him, but never forget him. God Bless you, Mrs. Herzog & family. With Heartfelt Sympathy John D. Nazelrod, Eldersburg, Maryland
We are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of a wonderful and loving father and excellent police deputy. Our prayers go out to Mrs. Herzog and the girls. God Bless Michelle and the rest of the Fikilini Family
Knowing one of his daughters, this loss was horrible in equality as it was a pointless waste of beautiful life. My thoughts and prayers go to his family, but especially to his daughters, who have lost so much in the past few days. God bless you & hold on. RPP
My deepest sympathies to Deputy Herzog's family and friends. He was the epitome of bravery and selflessness. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers Katie Vicino, Puyallup Medical Explorer
First of all I want you to know that I am an African-American man. I have been critical of police envolvement for the past 10 years towards African-Americans. I do realize that most police officers are good and decent people. I believe Deputy Herzog was one of them. Their are bad people among every race. No one person is superior or better than the other. We should all be in harmony for one race, the human race. Deputy Herzog was human. Deputy Herzog was serving humanity Saturday night June 22. He put his life on the line for others, white, black, Asian, Hispanic etc. Although I didn't know anything about Deputy Herzog I feel a deep remorse for what happen. Deputy Herzog tried to subdue a suspect without lethal force and because of it he paid the highest price with his life. I wish that that Saturday night never happend. I am appreciative of officers like Deputy Herzog. I pray for his spirit, his wife and two daughters and his fellow officers and the community. I pray for all of us. This was not about black or white. This was about a man who swore to serve and protect the community and died doing it. Needlessly. God Bless you Deputy Herzog. Rest in Peace. Greg
My deepest sympathy to the family of the slain officer. Thank You so much for sharing this wonderful man with all of us. It takes a very special person to be a Police Officer in this day and age and it is a tremendous loss to all of King County and the state of Washington. I'll keep you all in my prayers that you may find some peace. To the Officers who protect us every day, Thank You for being there. God Bless you. Sandra Oglesbee
Even amongst eagles, our brother, Deputy Richard Herzog flyes higher. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you and Richard's family. Faithfully Your brothers and sisters of the Elma Police Department
Hermano...Diste tu vida para que vivan otros,en nuestos ojos heroe siempre seras,Adios amigo no te dire por que junto anosotros siempre estaras. God keep and bless your family. Luis Robles WA - National Latino Peace Officers Association Chapter President
I am so very sorry for your loss!I am a Trooper in the valley and have had the pleasure of working with Deputy Herzog on a number of ocassions. He was very friendly and professional each time I was with him. He helped me on an incident in the May Valley area earlier in the year and without his assistance that day, I'd probably still be there trying to manage it. I was deeply struck when I heard the news and have had two sleepless nights since, as all my co-workers have as well. Being a police officer is the toughest thing in the world, but Deputy Herzog did it well, and went out a true hero. We can all be proud for what he stood for and the sacrifice he made for all! My thoughts and prayers are with he and his family. Rest in peace brother, you will never be forgotten!! WSP Trooper

To the Herzog family, Our condolances with regard to the loss of one of our officers while in the line of duty. Our prayers go out to you and sorry to hear about this loss. God bless, Karl and Lucila Neubert
My heartfelt sympathies to the Herzog family and friends. This is a loss that should never have happened. Our prayers are with you all. Evelyn Scott
In response to a comment left by (the individual) who encourages you to forgive and forget.... I don't think there is any way to forgive such a sin. And to forget is wrong. I did not know your husband Mrs Herzog, but I do know what I've learned in 20 years of service in the Armed Forces. To quote Woodrow Wilson lest we forget, "Unless justice is done to others it will not be done to us." I pray that justice will be swift and appropriate. Take courage in the fact that your husband died not in vain, but in defending a strong commitment to the principles of law and order, and the justice which makes our Nation free. Many a soul is standing with him in proud salute as he enters a better place. God bless you and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Vince Bizilj
On behalf of everyone at Calvary Chapel Redmond, we extend our sympathy and our prayers to Deputy Herzog's family and his brothers and siters in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Herzog family. God Bless Don, Cheryl, Jenna and Callie Hyman
My mother and I send our most heartfelt sympathies to Deputy Herzog's family and friends. Words cannot express our grief. God bless you all. Judy & Olive
We lived a little over 3 years in the city of Newcastle, just up the hill. Deputies drove by all the time & we were always grateful for their passing, grateful for their devotion, grateful for their being around. thaks now is probably not what should be said, it will not help deputy Herzog, but for the rest of you. THANKS Rod Shepard
My boyfriend is an explorer with a police department and we live in Puyallup. Knowing that the family of Deputy Herzog lives here in Puyallup, we feel that this has really hit home. We have both been praying for the family and friends of Deputy Herzog. We also greatly appreciate all of the law enforcement officiers who go to work everyday to protect our communities. It is great to see the support of fellow officiers and the community during these hard times. anonymous

To the family of slain officer; I would like to express my sympathy and
sadness for your big loss. My brother was also murdered a few years ago, so I know what your going through. My heart
aches for you and the co-workers. God Bless Joyce Sanderson/ Renton
We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Herzog family and to the police family for the loss of this wonderful servant of the people. It was such a senseless killing..how a man can go to work in the morning, and never know if he's coming home at night must be a terrible burdon for a family. This was such a horrible, senseless killing, and please know that people from all over are hurting and grieving with you during this time..we lost our daughter a year ago, and nothing can ever bring her back, but the memories will always be with us, as will yours. He sounded like such a wonderful man, police officer, husband and father..please be proud of him, as I know you will and know thousands of people are greiving with you....Sincerely Jim and Marilyn Larson, Renton
I am very sorry to what happened to your family. It was a sensless act by a cold blooded murder. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. god bless you and your family in this time of grief. (((hugs))) Denise
Although we did not know Officer Herzog, we are parents of one son who is a Police Officer, and another son who is a Firefighter (I am also the daughter of a Police Officer). We feel the loss of yet, another dedicated individual who gave his/her life in an effort to try to make things a little safer for the rest of us. Our pain pales, however, in comparison to what his wife, daughters, family and friends must be feeling. We know there are no words we can say to ease that pain but please know we share in the pride you feel for Officer Herzog and every other uniformed person who serves the community in some way. God Bless each and every one of you. James and Betty Worsdale
I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Deputy Herzog. My heart goes out to his family and to the law enforcement community. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. God bless. Michelle A.

I JUST WANT THE FAMILY AND FELLOW OFFICERS TO KNOW WE DONT KNOW EACH OTHER BUT YOUR LOSS IS IN MY PRAYERS. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU. EUGENIA CAMELIN
I am deeply saddened to hear of Officers Herzog's ultimate sacrifice. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers. I have read as much as I can about Officer Herzog's career and life. I hope his family finds sloace in the knowledge that his memory and spirit will live on in me, and I'm sure with all people who care for the well being of others, just as he cared and sacrificed for them. God bless. Joetey Attariwala, Victoria, BC, Canada
As a mom of a King County Sheriff's Deputy the murder of Deputy Herzog makes me realize how life can be taken in a second. How sad. My heart is sadden today to hear my man (son) cry over the great lose of a fellow officer. These officers put their life on the line everyday so we are safe. Would you want to live in a world without them? You now live in a world where one good man, officer, father, son, friend, and husband is now gone. Please remember this for more then 1 month and then it is forgotten. My prays are with his love ones. Rhoda
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Deputy Herzog. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, as well as his friends and all of those grieving his loss. Our love and support Puyallup Medical Explorers
My heart goes out to the family of Deputy Herzog. As a mother of twin boys that are studying to become police officers, this broke my heart. We as a community need to realize the wonderful people that put their entire life on the line every day to protect you and me. They do this without hesitation and many times without the due credit they deserve. We hear far to much about the negative incidents, but not nearly enough about the positive the police do every day. My sympathies and prayers are with Deputy Herzog's family. Tammi Batton
There are no words that can sooth the pain of such a needless loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all the men and women who serve us so bravely. Barry Peterson
I would just like to send my deepest sympathy to the family of Deputy Herzog. I am truely sickened by this crime and I pray that the man responcable is prosicuted to the full extent of the law. I beleive that our Justice system needs to be looked at to keep people like the man who shot Deputy Herzog off the streets and in Jail or someplace where they can get help. Again I am very sorry for your loss, to the family of Deputy Herzog and all of King County Police you are in my prayers. Justin Hayes, Woodinville Fire Explorer.
you're sitting at roll call in heaven now. can you see us down here mourning your loss, your ultimate sacrifice for our well-being? i know that before you may have thought that some of your days seemed to have lasted forever, a lifetime. well you have a new beat now. one that covers familiar terrain but from a new perspective up above. one that allows
allow to continue watching over your family. one that the will show you that your valor won't be forgotten. one that
will be filled with the love and light of god. one that indeed will last an eternity. i offer you these words that i've given
countless times to your earthbound brethren: have a good shift an anonymous voice on the other end of another agency's radio
My heart is broken every time something like this happpens to one of our brave peace officers. My thoughts and prayers are with the Herzog family and all of the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for us every day. I do not live on the eastside, but this is, and should be, a greater community effort to send our support to all families of police officers, firefighters, and ems, who so bravely choose to protect all of us. God be with you....I will keep you in my prayers. This is a very painful time for everyone who knew Officer Herzog, and for those of us who appreciate what he did for the community. The grief will, in time, subside. I speak from experience, Until then, please remember you are in our prayers, and our thoughts. God Bless. Kathe B.
