Statement:
I have over 14 years experience working cooperatively in the Mercer Island schools with parents, students, teachers, administrators, board members and superintendents to ensure continued excellence in MI schools. I have worked effectively with numerous citizen groups, including service as PTA President at the District Council, High School and elementary school levels. The Washington Association of School Administrators recognized me this year for outstanding leadership on behalf of our community and students.
Our students have different strengths and learning styles, and we must acknowledge this fact when structuring curriculum. I want to help all kids thrive and find success, whether they are exceptional or struggling students. I strongly support the District’s 2020 Vision, and the personalized student learning goal which the School Board recently incorporated in the 2020 Vision. I would be honored to put my knowledge and leadership experience to work as a member of the MI School Board.

While Mercer Island enjoys outstanding public education, Dave understands there are issues that require active positive oversight. Collaborating to improve the math program for ten years, Dave has attended many dozens of Board meetings, volunteered as IMS math coach, served on the Math Review Committee, and guest lectured in calculus class, becoming known as the Mercer Island “Math Guy.”
Dave’s lifelong passion for educational excellence leads him to seek election to the MI School Board. He is an especially knowledgeable resource in math and science. Dave supports a personalized approach that honors individual differences–the District’s “2020 Vision.”
Dave values financial prudence, good relations with the teachers’ union, parental input, expanding life skill learning, and nurturing music, the arts, and athletics. Dave is committed to community conversation and open office hours.
