Education:Portland Community College
Photo of Karen Tennyson Statement:

Two-term chair North Rose Hill Neighborhood Association Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods representative • Kirkland Planning Commission, including chair • Kirkland business owner • Kirkland Economic Partnership • A Regional Coalition for Housing citizen board • 17-year resident of Kirkland

A community activist for 10+ years, I will safeguard neighborhood character by standing up to outside development interests that don’t reflect Kirkland values.

I will work to maintain strong neighborhoods and business communities that support and respect each other, allowing Kirkland to keep its enviable character.

Kirkland faces significant economic challenges. I have the skills and experience to be a strong leader and insist the City live within its means. I value the financial contribution Kirkland citizens make to the fiscal health of the City through their support of local businesses and the property taxes they pay.

I will represent you well.

Endorsed and supported by community and neighborhood leaders.

Balancing the Budget

My background in law and finance has taught me how to balance budgets. Just as I have helped employers manage through tough economic times, I will help the City of Kirkland do the same.

Public Safety

I believe that the city’s top priority is maintaining the safety of our citizens. I will work hard to make sure that those keeping us safe have the resources they need to be effective.

Responsible Business Practices

City planning should place businesses where they are best able to serve residents. We should balance preserving Kirkland’s heritage and maintaining its natural charm, with responsible city planning. This will enable us to keep our city’s unique beauty while appealing to citizens looking for a vibrant community.

My goal as your City Councilwoman will be to create a lively and attractive place for our citizens to live, shop, work and raise a family.
