![]() Oct. 17, 2007 Absentee ballots are in the mail, poll workers needed as the General Election nearsWith three weeks until the Nov.6 General Election, King County Elections today mailed 620,000 absentee ballots. For voters serving in the military, living overseas and out of state, ballots were mailed on Oct. 5 to allow extra transit time for delivery. Poll voters who can't make it to their neighborhood polling place on Election Day can request an absentee ballot by phone at 206-296-VOTE (8683) or online at King County Elections' Web site https://your.kingcounty.gov/elections/absentee/onetime_form.htm. Absentee ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day, Nov. 6. Voters can also return their voted absentee ballot to any polling place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters who do not receive their absentee ballot in the mail by Friday, Oct. 26 should call 206-296-VOTE. Postage requirement In-person accessible voting In-person accessible voting is available for all voters today through Nov. 6, Election Day, at King County Elections' downtown Seattle office at 500 Fourth Ave, Room 553, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Accessible voting units provide an audio and touch-screen ballot in English and Chinese. With large font and high contrast options and tactile devices, voting is made easy for people with partial or no vision and any voter with a disability. All voters are welcome to vote using an accessible voting unit. King County Administration Building entrances on Fourth and Fifth Avenue are accessible to individuals with disabilities. To request accommodations, call 206-296-8683. Voters' Pamphlets Voters' Pamphlets were mailed to each household in King County over the last few weeks. Voters' Pamphlets are available in English and Chinese in print format and the Web at www.kingcounty.gov/elections. Printed copies are also offered in Braille, large-type and audio cassette formats by request. The Video Voters' Guide airs on King County Television and 17 community television stations through Election Day. The county's voter information hotline 206-296-VOTE (8683) is available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Automated telephone assistance is available during off hours and on weekends. Register to vote by Monday Monday, Oct. 22 is the last day for new Washington voters to register to vote in-person at the King County Elections office. King County Elections is open weekdays from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will extend its office hours on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accommodate last-minute voter registrations. Enter through the King County Courthouse on Third Avenue. 700 poll workers needed for Election Day Poll workers are responsible for opening and closing the polls and issuing ballots to voters. Workers will receive a four-hour, paid training, and the position requires attentiveness and a commitment to helping people navigate the election process. Poll workers in King County receive $122.92 for their service on Election Day, which begins at 6 a.m. and ends once the poll closing procedures are completed, around 9 p.m. Interested individuals should call the Poll Worker Coordination Office at 206-296-1606.
