5,000 absentee voters with mismatched signatures to act
2006/11/18: 最新選舉結果報導
The King County Elections tabulation team counted 9,213 additional absentee ballots today, which represents all ballots on hand ready to be tabulated.
Election results summary:
-
9,213 absentee ballots tabulated today
- 425,729 absentee ballots tabulated to date
- 179,636 poll ballots tabulated to date (does not include provisional ballots)
Approximately 26,000 ballots remain to be counted. This number includes projected provisional ballots we expect to verify and count next week.
Voters notified by mail recently that they forgot to sign their absentee ballot envelope or have a mismatched signature have four business days to fix it. If King County Elections does not receive written notification from voters with signatures issues, either a signed affidavit or a new voter registration form, by Monday, November 27, at 6 p.m., their ballots will not be tabulated.
"If you have received a letter from us, stop by our office or a Community Service Center before the long Thanksgiving holiday so we can update your signature and count your mail ballot," said Sherril Huff Menees, assistant director of Records, Elections and Licensing Services.
When an absentee ballot is returned with a signature issue, election officials immediately attempt to contact the voter both by mail and by phone. Contact attempts have already been made for a vast majority of these voters.
Voters have three options to fix their signature:
Option #1: Complete an in-person voter registration form at our office or one of King County’s community service centers (for a list of locations and hours, visit http://your.kingcounty.gov/csc/ )
Option #2: Sign the affidavit mailed to you and provide a photocopy of valid government or tribal identification that includes your current signature. Return both the affidavit and the photocopy of your ID.
Option #3: Sign the affidavit in front of two witnesses who attest to your signature.
Six Community Service Centers are located in rural areas of the county and have convenient evening hours to assist voters who have received letters. Voters can also visit the King County Administration Building at 500 Fourth Avenue in Seattle Monday, Nov.20 to Wednesday, Nov.22 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Seattle office and Community Service Centers will be closed Nov. 23 – 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
NOTE: All affidavits must be received by Monday, November 27 at 6 p.m.
Daily results are posted next Monday through Wednesday by 6 p.m.
The media room established by King County Elections to assist reporters and other media is closed until the February 6, 2007 Special Election.
