Media advisory:
Primary election returns available on county Website
Up-to-the minute election results for the September 19 primary will be available starting at 8:15 p.m. on election night on the King County Elections' Web site: http://your.kingcounty.gov/elections/200609/results.htm.
Election returns beginning with absentee ballots counted Tuesday will be posted and updated as memory cards are received from all 508 King County polling locations.
New procedures are in place emphasizing accuracy in ballot reconciliation at the polls. These requirements mean the county will upload election results taken from regional depots to the county's tabulation center near downtown Seattle for uploading directly to election computer servers beginning around 10 p.m. The tabulation will continue on the hour at 11 p.m., 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. or until 98-to-100 percent of polling places are reported online.
As the 12th largest county in the nation, King County's polling places span 2,134 square miles, which includes Vashon Island. Staff expect results will take longer than in previous years as workers will need additional time to close the polls, secure new, accessible voting units, do additional reconciliation paperwork to verify results, as well as the extra time required to drive results to the tabulation center.
Though poll results will come in later on Election Day, the change will improve overall security and accountability of unofficial election night results.
