Special, three-day filing period scheduled for commissioner positions in the proposed Vashon Public Utility District No. 1

King County Elections will conduct a special, three-day filing period for the three commissioner positions in the proposed Vashon Public Utility District No. 1.  If approved by voters in the November General Election, the Vashon Public Utility District will be the first PUD in King County.  If the Vashon PUD is not approved by voters, the commissioners will not be deemed elected.

The three-day candidate filing period will be conducted from September 25 - 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Declarations will be accepted at the King County Elections Office at 500 Fourth Ave, Room 553, in Seattle, and at the Community Service Center located in Courthouse Square at 19021 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon, to accommodate Vashon-Maury Island residents.   

Candidates must be registered to vote on Vashon-Maury Islands and file for one of the three district commissioner positions based on their registered precinct.  The three PUD commissioners will be elected at large by registered voters of Vashon-Maury Islands. 

One commissioner will be elected to each of the three districts, determined by the boundaries defined by the following precincts:

    • District No. 1 Commissioner Position must be registered to vote in one of the following precincts: Baker, Biloxi, Carpenter, Chautauqua, Colvos, Cove, Dolphin, Dilworth, Lisabeula, or Vashon.
    • District No. 2 Commissioner Position must be registered to vote in one of the following precincts: Burton, Cross, Sealth, Shawnee, Quartermaster, or Tahlequah.
    • District No. 3 Commissioner Position must be registered to vote in one of the following precincts: Dockton, Maury, or Portage.

Quick tips for candidates filing for office:

  • Bring photo identification with you.
  • There is no filing fee
  • For your Declaration of Candidacy to be valid, you must sign it in front of a notary or file in person.
  • All information, including phone numbers, submitted on the Declaration of Candidacy is public information. Your filing address will be published in the official Notice of Election.
