![]() Sept. 21, 2005 King County pleased with Election Day efforts
As results of Tuesday's primary conclude, reports from King County's 527 polling locations today indicate a hassle-free election at the polls. Staff Tuesday counted 90,709 absentee ballots of the 177,578 received to date as well as 52,456 poll ballots. The remaining 10 precincts not included in tonight's final posting will be counted and posted tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. "We worked hard to prepare for today and it paid off," said Dean Logan, director of King County Records, Elections and Licensing Services. "Our work is not over. In the next ten days staff will work diligently processing absentee and provisional ballots to certify the Primary by the September 30 deadline then immediately begin preparing for the General Election five weeks later." Of the 90,709 absentee ballots counted today, 93 percent correctly cast a vote in the partisan races with few voters choosing to vote only in nonpartisan races. "Our outreach paid off and those who chose to vote in partisan races followed instructions," said Logan. "In all likelihood the few that did not select the party preference did so intentionally." Through September 30, King County Elections staff will continue to work to check for valid postmarks, verify signatures, separate ballots from return and security envelopes, and prepare ballots for tabulation. King County Elections will post election results again tomorrow, Wednesday September 21 at 4:30 p.m. Result information is available at http://your.kingcounty.gov/elections/2005sep/results.htm |
