Saturday deadline to register for the Primary

If you are new to the area or just turned 18 and want to cast a ballot in the upcoming September 20 Primary, you must register to vote in-person by Saturday, September 3.

These last-minute voters must vote by mail for the Primary.

To accommodate new voters, King County Elections will have extended office hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 3.

To register to vote for the Primary:

  • You must be 18 years old by September 20;
  • You must be a United States citizen;
  • ·You must be a resident of King County.

Who cannot register to vote?

  • Anyone who does not meet the requirements for registration.
  • Anyone declared by the courts to be mentally incompetent.
  • Anyone convicted of a felony, who has not had his/her civil rights restored.

Voters who miss the deadline or who mail-in registrations will be eligible to vote in the November 8 General Election and should expect to receive a voter registration card by mid-October.

Any voter who normally casts an absentee ballot does not need to re-register. To find out if you’re a permanent registered absentee voter or to confirm your registration and polling place, visit https://your.kingcounty.gov/elections/voterlookup.aspx .

King County Elections is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is located in the King County Administration Building at 500 Fourth Avenue, Room 553 in Seattle.
