So you want to be an elected official?
King County Elections will hold its annual candidate workshop Friday, July 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Town Hall to answer questions about filing for office and to teach first-time candidates and campaign staff about Washington election laws. This free workshop is especially useful for first-time candidates running in small races as well as campaign staff unfamiliar with district boundary maps and voter lists.
Highlights of the workshop include:
- A review of new 2005 state legislation;
- Special reporting requirements for King County candidates;
- Yard sign regulations;
- How to use voter lists, data, and maps;
- How to file fundraising reports online with the Public Disclosure Commission; and
- Procedures for filing for office in King County.
To be on the fall election ballot, all candidates must file a declaration of candidacy for elected offices with King County Elections between July 25 and July 29.
